I'm finally putting my boat together for the upcoming summer, and thought I'd revisit the jib system I'm using.
Last year, I replaced that annoying, crew knee eating wire that the jibsheet blocks ride along with spectra line. It works OK, but I'm still not sure I really like it, as it is hard to get it nice and tight, and it tends to get chafed up pretty bad.
Anyone have any thoughts on what a good plan B might be?

Call Mike B at Select Sail and Sport. He has a set up he makes with webbing and stainless rings that works great. It simple, doesnt hurt when you hit it , stable unlike the pure spectra line, and is still easily ajustable. All of the guys in our fleet have switched, and I think Paul Baumerbauch has it on his boat too if you want to ask him.
Are you guys going to make it to Bent Mast this year. We have a party scheduled off site so we can have beer this year.

Hey Tim,
I understand about the webbing and stainless rings mentioned in a previous post, very similar to the Tornado System....Only issue is,,,Can you adjust on any point of sail with out loding sail shape or jib?....
Stick with the spectra. I have another idea to put tension on the line although I dont think it has to be "real tight" you can slide the cars forward an inch or so to make up for the slack

Yeah, I don't know Eric, I'm just a little disinchanted with the whole thing.
Seems like a lot of screwing around either way. You're either fighting the spectra system, or your having to figure out before you're on the water what to do about which ring to put it on, or whatever.
Not sure what I'll end up deciding on this one.

The wire works the way it is supposed to, I put a peice of rubber tubing over the center section of the cable that doesn't get used and that keeps the crew "somewhat" happy.
I am de-rigging my 20 now to get ready for paint. I can't wait, its gonna be "teal" with a teal tramp.

You do have to make a decision on which ring to use but it is easy to change even on the water, and you still have the same fore and aft adjustment that you always had.
I find that I end up setting the fore and aft position per the mast rake before we leave the beach, and the inbord adjustment is set also and only changed to depower when the wind is really honking, so the clips work great.

2 quarts Awlgrip, 2 quarts catalyst, and a quart of thinner.
A couple rolls of #220 for the palm sander and a tube of dupont 5200 for reassmbly.
My neighbor is a marine mechanic and got the mateials through his acount. If you don't have a connection you will pay 30-35% more

The Taipan had a similar system.
Now all Taipan jibs sheet from eyelets in the tramp.
Some people have two or 3 eylets each side for adjustment but rarely if ever use the adjustments.
Find the right place for mast rake and jib shape and one eylet will do.
Simple , easy, clean and it works.
