Next stupid Hobie-20 question - There is shock cord in the main crossbeam for the crew trapezes. How are they replaced? It would appear that the end caps need to be taken off, but what then? Mine are rotted, just want to have an idea before I go taking things apart...

can't you just tape new bungee to your existing and pull it thru? like replacing a halyard

Got to http://www.hobiecat.com/support/pdfs/partguides.pdf, pg 22 for a diagram. Can tape new to old and run 'em that way, or find a 9' stick.. End caps have to come off; don't really need to rivet them back on with 3 rivets. Can use one screw or even a thin piece of line. Need something to hold them, especially if you have a weight bar in the crossbeam (pretty disconcerting to see your weight bar sliding out as you zip along double trapped) . You DO know what the boat weighs, right 🙂

Now I get it, I didn't make sense of the diagrams before - shock cord dead ends at cap, goes all the way to the other side, through block, then back to original side and out hole. Certainly got to take off the end caps.

I have no idea what the boat weighs! It sure seems to be a little lighter than my old 18, though. But then again, sometimes my '81 Dodge Van seems lighter than the 18...

I put new shock cord in my boat at the Mega event and didn't know how the thing worked either till I opened it up.

I did it a little different...don't know if it is any better, but different none the less. I went in the hole (port), down to the block (stbd) on the other side, down to the other block (port), then out the other hole (stbd). It seems to keep the traps tighter, not to mention if your crew goes flying, they have more bungie to let them fly w/o breaking it.

The only draw back is if the bungie breaks on one side, you lost it on the other side too.
