Foiling Phantom races ancient F18s. {that normal people can afford}
That shot of pulling away from the F18s downwind was great. No telling what that thing feels like.

Race #1: 3 hours 16 minutes elapsed, 9 minutes and 43 seconds ahead of Frederic Duthil and Frederic Moreau on their F18 catamaran.
Race #2: 1 hour 16 minutes elapsed, 10 minutes and 26 seconds ahead Charles Hainneville and his brother Maxime racing their Nacra 17
Race #3: 2 hours 24 minutes elapsed but unfortunately due to OCS they were not ranked in this last race of the week-end.
They have to gain 9 minutes an hour on an F18.

Just wait until the NACRA C 20 hits the waves with their foiling package. I hope they will be racing in the Texel, and then we may see a new rating solution come from the ISAF.

What is the draft in foiling mode? I'd guess it would be less than a traditional F18/F16. Non-foiling mode it goes deeper (I'd assume), but foiling probably takes less water than a typical F18/F16.
Just knowing that you're paying attenting makes me all warm and fuzzy.

Hmmmm...that's not much. They must have had to do some non-foiling sailing that cost them time. 10 minute lead after 3 hours isn't that much (for and extra $18,000).

Hmmmm...that's not much. They must have had to do some non-foiling sailing that cost them time. 10 minute lead after 3 hours isn't that much (for and extra $18,000).
The report on catsailingnews said that they had to deal with sub-8-knot upwind conditions where they drifted into the middle of the pack of F18's.
It goes without saying that with that much drag under the hulls, its gonna be sticky in displacement mode.

I keep thinking how much I already DREAD racing with weeds in the water...I just can't imagine.
Plus you can't pull the boards or rudders to clear weed with any headway. We found with the winglets on the rudders it was faster to back down in the middle of a tack if you HAD to clear, but leaving the weed on was fastest. I made the mistake of popping a rudder going about 6 or 7 knots and it was ugly.
