[#20186]

I took off the straps but the cross boar won't come loose. Is there somethingn I am missing? I need to take the tramp to be sewn and it seems the only way to remove it is with the front cross bar taken off.

I think the cross bar may never have been taken off. I tried giving it a few good strong taps with a rubber mallet but it didn't budge.

Thanks in advance for any and all information.

Rusty

My Nacra isn't a 5.8, but there is another bolt just inside the front crossbeam, hidden by the cap. The 5.8 is the same I think

Yeup - take off the end caps and there it is - I beleive it is a 3/8" bolt

One came out pretty easy, the other is having to soak in Liquid Wrench to loosen up.......Rusty

Before you put the bolts back in, coat them with anti-sieze. I like the nasty grey grease looking stuff sold by NAPA and almost every other commercial auto parts store.

See if you can get torque wrench. Do not strip your threads
16-18 ft lb is max force that you should use to tide bolts.

When you put your straps back it is a good idea to put some electric tape between beam and straps. That way straps do not cut into beam.

I always thought that the straps on NACRAs was a goofy way to do things. It doesn't look like it would give a good, solid, rack-free joining, but apparently it gets the job done.
