I've not seen a TheMightyHobie18 with a comp tip here and I was just wondering:-
Do all the H18s released in the USA have the comp tip?
Was the comp tip released anywhere else?

the comp tips were on all us boats by hobie as part of a law suit settlement. 1986 of after i believe they were standard, and required to race. Thats what happens when someone puts one up into a power line while raising the mast. I'm so glad it doesn't affect hobie europe boats i hate two piece masts.

The comptip on my old hobie wasn't that long. Seems more like 4 or 5... but my memory is fading.

The exposed portion of the comptip all the way to the top of the masthead is 93 1/2 inches.
The stump that goes into the mast itself is another 6 1/2 inches long,
with a total overall length for shipping purposes,
which is why I assume you are asking, is 100 Inches.

Hope that helps.

Rich,
We had a similar thing happen here.
A couple moving a Nacra 5.8 went into power lines at a regatta.
Unfortunately one fellow lost his life.
Instead of making everyone use plastic tops on their masts they put up signs to ensure people are warned.

Regards,
Phill

Phill,

Apparently when God was creating the world, he gave you guys cute little Koala Bears and Kangaroo's, while we got overzealous Personal Injury Lawyers, and Juries that give excessive awards, thereby encouraging people to avoid personal responsibility and blame others for their own stupid actions. I think you got the better deal.

Damn soapbox

Stephen, don't forget they got BoxJellyfish (deadliest)... even though that still may be a better way to die, than via our latigious system...

yes, box jellyfish can kill within minutes.

The legal system will kill you over the course of years (or decades), and only after they've sucked every last penny of your money....
