“Internet Multicast Planned for 2006 Tybee 500”
Sunday April 9th, 2006 Tybee Island GA: The top distance catamaran sailors will meet next month in Hollywood, Florida for the start of the one of the most grueling catamaran races in the world. The Tybee 500 consists of six days (May 14-19th) and 500 miles of open ocean catamaran sailing on 20 foot boats. “A Long Way to Go, A Short Time To Get There” is the motto of the race, one that rings true to the participants that may sail 6-8 hours per day, fully exposed to the elements.
This year, the race coverage will include a first of its kind internet multimedia production including daily video updates of the race that will be syndicated to a number of websites. Brian Karr, President of Rockledge Engineering Inc, a multimedia productions company stated “A video player has already been added to the race website www.Tybee500.com with previous year’s videos, and for the first time on the internet we will be syndicating the race videos to other websites. Viewers have the ability to choose from a variety of different sites from which to follow the race!” Online websites www.CatSailor.com, www.AdventureOnline.TV, www.1Design.Net, www.VelocitySailing.com, and www.TeamSeaCats.com, as well as others have already added players, and more are expected.
The Tybee 500 website www.Tybee500.com will also include live text updates throughout the race. From Brian Karr, “We are very excited about this year’s race. In addition to filming in High Definition from the beach, we will be putting onboard cameras onto different boats each day. Viewers will be able to easily follow along from their computer and get a feeling of what it’s like to be part of the race.”
