I have a Paper Tiger and the hull is quite oxidised, faded from the sun. Using cut and polish brings it up quite well and is also good to remove the rubber marks from the jetty bumpers. Is this ok for the fibreglass? Ive read about a gel coat on F/G but does all F/G have this, Id presume cut/polish would remove this coating?

55 views and no replies?? Maybe cut&polish is a term most on this list dont uinderstand, me being in Australia. Its a cutting compound usually used on cars, its like toothpaste, it has a fine "grit" in it that can remove the very top surface from paint etc. Is it ok on fibreglass??

IMHO:

Try a small patch and see what it does. The idea is to use finer and finer compounds to remove scratches and oxidization. A product that works well that I know of is 3M Fiberglass wax and restorer.

here in the US it's more commonly refered to as a rubbing or polishing compound.

a good place to try it out is on the inside of the hulls under the tramp.

nobody sticks their head under there and pictures never get up in there either

chargin - what state are you in? I own a tiger myself in WA.. what make of hulls do you have? I'm going over one to get back into trim for racing, just got a set of lightly broken kick up rudders to be fixed and go on. would like to hear from you.

Shoom hi, Im in SA, Im not sure about the hulls, I bought the boat used and dont know if theres any way to tell? Im very new to all this, Ive never sailed before and have now been out 3 times in the tiger, great fun. I didnt even know how to put the mast up or rig the sail a few days ago. Im trying to get some friends to buy a tiger as well so we can race each other, they seem to go pretty cheap. They are put off because they think its a racing boat and they wont be able to handle it, I thought it was more a learners boat that also gets raced....
