Rick,

Can you tell us more about the process for determining inductees? The comment on the web page about the 2000-1 season seems to suggests some sort of board of electors. Who makes the decisions?

Also what is the scope of achievements considered by the HoF? The heading refers to "sailors", the preamble refers to the "sport of sailing", but I am presuming that this is really about "catamaran sailoring", yes? But would it include contributions, for example, to design, sports administration or the sailing equipment industry?

And what about Nathanael Herreshoff? I'm not aware of his exploits related to cat sailing, and the bio doesn't shed any light.

Mark.

Check out:

I used to have a link to a reprint of the news story of the Centennial Race, but I can't find it now.

Turns out Nat was a cat sailor!

We annually send out a letter and a list of possible nominees that were derived by previous voting. We send this to about 30 selected folks that submit their choice of 4 votes.

When the votes come in we tally them up and pick the top ones. If the votes are spread all over, then no one is inducted. That was the case last year.

There will be another vote sent out between now and the fall of this year.

As for Herreshoff, he designed and sailed one of the first cats in USA history. Already a distinguished designer and member of the New York YC, he designed and raced his cat and totally trounced everyone.
That was when they banned his cat from ever racing again.
And we are still blessed with the same thinking today. <img src=
