Jules Verne
Is anyone following Loick Peyron & Banque Populaire?
They just turned the corner at the bottom of the Atlantic to pass south of Africa.
They are cruising along at 34.5 knots and are 655 miles ahead of the current record holder Groupama.
Amazing!

800 Miles to go at 33 knots. 1468 miles ahead of the record. They should finish Friday or Saturday.
What a year for Loick Peyron.
AC 45's in the summer
Around the world on a 130 foot tri in the winter.
They're bad they're worldwide. My apologies to ZZ Top.
He's BAD! http:/
But I'll bet he's not wearing...Cheap Sunglasses!

OK, Loick might be Fast, but he's not as fast as Tommy Emmanuel: (stick with it at least to 2:00)

Hey Kid! Get OFF MY LAWN!

29,002 miles in total ! at 26.5 knots! amazing numbers

>>Well, a fast attack sub or aircraft carrier could theoretically beat the time on the JV course, it would not be
easy.
The top speeds of these vessels are classified, but standard operation procedures would not allow these speeds for this length of time. The carrier would need to ditch the other ships in the carrier group (none of which could maintain 26 kt for any length of time), which would leave the carrier without defensive weapons and would require exceptional circumstances. The sub could not maintain this speed on the surface but could when submerged, however standard submerged cruise speeds are less than 26 knots, so you would need a very good reason to exceed standard speeds.
Interestingly, BP5 has substantially exceeded the top speeds of both nuclear subs or aircraft carriers. While we do not know the precise limits they are certainly in the low 30 knot range. I believe that no nuclear powered ship has ever done 45 knots nor an 800 mile day, which BP5 has done several times.
As a practical matter, I strongly suspect that 45 days for a 26,000nm non-stop route is a absolute record for a surface ship regardless of propulsion, wind, steam, oil, or nuclear. The other boats that might be able to beat that time, are extremely unlikely to attempt that course for practical reasons. <<

To Sail7Seas,
While you are most likely correct about a US Navy aircraft carrier or nuclear sub (fast attack or boomer) going around the world non-stop at those speeds ... the top
wartime
flank speeds those vessels are capable of is alot higher the
low 30's
... and they have even exceeded 45knots .... they just won't
officially
tell us.
In the late 70's or early 80's the nuclear aircraft carrier USS Enterprise was tied to the dock in San Diego Calif ... when a
1st Class Red Alert
was declared .... this means ... she goes to sea ... NOW!!!! (if you where standing on the dock ... you didn't have time to run up the gangway !!!)
From the time she was tied to the dock, to the point she was
hull down
and over the horizon was in the order of 11 mins. So why do we know this? Because she rolled an ocean going +100ft Tuna boat w/ her wake ... in the harbor as she left, causing the drowning deaths of several of the tuna boats crewmen ...
The pictures of the Enterprise as she was following the channel out, making that long curving turn, show she was
banking
10-15* like a airplane ... and you could read the numbers on her flight deck .... impressive!!!
Just imagine the shear horsepower she was generating ....
