Katrina spares P'cola...
Seems like we're doing ok here - thanks for the e-mails and phone calls. High water inland in creeks and bayous, but minimal flooding on the island.
The Newkirks weathered the storm on the island - lost power around 7 AM after making a good strong pot of coffee. Haven't been able to catch up with everyone yet - Sawyer and Holmes are fine in Gulf Breeze. It looks like we'll all be ok after this one.
Our thoughts, however, are with Tami and Boudreaux and Edderer and all our friends in Ocean Springs, where it seems the stormsurge and on-shore winds have been the worst. Efforts to reach them have been unsurprisingly unsuccessful.
More as things develop, but it looks like the whole thing is winding down as of noon CST.
John, Glad to hear your news! I've been thinking of all you gulf coast folks quite a bit lately. I did read on the beachcats Yahoo list, that Tami and Jay had evacuated either Saturday, or possibly even before that. I think they told Phillip they had water at the house when they left! Scary! Hope people are playing it safe!
