Huge congratulations to the west coast Hobie 16 fleet for making the upcoming championship prior to the RED BULL AC45 series a success. The second championship of the new format looks like a good sign for the future.

22 boats registered will be the largest Multihull championship for USSA ever!!!

Saw this name on the competitor list

22. Hobie Alter ? Scott Alter
Hobie 16
HOBIE CLASS

I assume that this is the second and third generation of the Alter clan? Nice!

That is correct, Scott is his son. Looking forward to being there to help out on the water.

Check here for a nice write up by Liz Walker i suspect.

US Sailing Championship Introduction

U.S. Multihull Championship to be Raced in Hobie 16s on San Francisco Bay

Here is a culture question... are you sailing IN a Hobie 16..... or are you sailing ON a Hobie 16

Written by Jake Fish. He's been writing for US Sailing for a few years. Nice guy. Credit where credit is due.

Love it or hate it, the new format is here.

As a reminder, here are some changes we've made, based upon the feedback from the survey. None of these came easily. Huge thanks to Laura and the committee for listening to our requests...

Rotated to double handed discipline.
Rotated to west coast.
Added clinic to pre-regatta activities.

First race is scheduled for Thursday. Wish I could be out there.

Can anyone beat Enrique?

Mike

Anything on Youtube? I'm really enjoying the AC45s, wish there was more such coverage.

There are supposed to be

video highlights

per the press release. Don't expect anything in the same galaxy as what you're seeing with Oracle's money being spent on the AC events.

I believe that funds were being made available for video in place of provided sails, but that discussion happened a while ago.

Pete,

YouTube replays are available for races 1 - 4 at this hour. Races 5 & 6 are forthcoming this evening. Read, Outteridge (sic), and Harris are the commentators. Video coverage is spot on.

Americas Cup YouTube channel streams to a big flat screen via 'Smart TV' or DVD Blue Ray player with YouTube wireless.

Hopefully, there will be YouTube coverage as Mike suggests... probably with the AC action.

Bert

I wish all competitors and guests a tremendous time during the 2013 edition of the United States Sailing Multihull Championship. I have my picks, and I bet many of you left - coasters have yours as well. I wish to thank Randy Smyth for his support in staging this event for y'all.

Let's enjoy our YouTube experience during the upcoming weeks.

Sincerely,
Bert

Enrique and Carla are three for three, in very odd conditions...

As usual, the live updates are too few and far between...

Wow... those conditions were all over the board.... Who would have predicted given all of the too much wind cancellations in the Loui Vouton and Red Bull cups.

Do you really want to hear the dialogue between a married couple racing on a cat?

H16 is a great boat. Good to see the cup back where it began.

I think this format is a winner.

Five races today, four more bullets for Enrique (and one OCS).

Nice race shaping up for second place, a virtual 3-way tie.

The video clips are fantastic... best example I can think of for why your class wants to partner with a host YC and US sailing to be part of the championship rotation...

Two more bullets, hard to tell if it's over, the Twitter posts are too few and vague.

Great Event, and a real rush to be on the water with the AC cats. Following is report from Event Nation Chair, Laura Sullivan.

Dear Folks,

Some great action shots from the US Multihull Championship for the Alter Trophy- taken by our home town team of - Jan and Skip Anderson.

We had some great help mark set and rescue support from our own Caleb Tarleton, Tim Dorwin, Kipp Silver, Jerry Valeske. See link below. Peter Nelson was sail 113845, and J Rosenbach and Valerie Pioszak were sail number 113599. Peter put on a good show for the folks on Day 3 on the America's Cup course. He also has a great photo of him doing a port / starboard thing with an AC 72!
