locating a sail box

Along with some other guys on this forum, I am about to order a run of aluminum sailboxes for anyone that wants one. The model you are talking about can be had from Murrays.com (now called the Performance Sport Locker), but will cost $800 plus freight. The aluminum boxes I am having built are roughly the same size, have the same doors, are diamond plate aluminum, and cost only $550 each (if we can get 5 boxes). Maybe you'd be interested? I'm in Raleigh, NC.

Dave-No, I have not gotten my own boat but yes, I plan on sailing more this year. (I think I counted 11 regattas we are planning on racing in) Oley has sold the H17 and is trying to sell the H20. The plan is to get a F16 and new trailer-so he needs a box.
Trey-When do you need to know if he wants an aluminium one? And thanks for the link for Murray's, I'll check that out too.

Why are you guys getting an F16 ? What is your combined weight? I think the F16 is a great boat but there are not any that I know of sailing at our regattas. The F18 would be a lot cheaper since there are a lot of used ones out there. We also have good fleets at the regattas.

I'll need to know sometime in the next 2 weeks or so. I think pretty much everyone that has a fiberglass sport locker will tell you that they don't hold up so well, and are never waterproof. Your call...

OK, here's an idea. Right now on EBay there is a Prindle 16 on a galvanized trailer WITH A SAILBOX!!!

Buy the boat, steal the box, pimp out the boat with a few hundred bucks and resell it for a thousand in the spring.

Please read the other thread on fiberglass sailboxes. I would say stay away from them! You can do much better for much less $, and the same or less assembly time. Trey's offer sounds good to me.

Trey-Count Oley in for a box-said it sounded good. Just have to figure out pick up later-maybe a regatta?
David-We are 265lbs together with all our gear on! LIGHTWEIGHTS Remember the Reggae and not being able to right the 20 and me getting hypothermia? We have a lot of fun on it be it really is too much boat for our weight. Plus he can single or double hand a F16 and only has to own one boat. (more room in the car port) Guess we will just have to stay in the open class till other lightweights get into the F16's. <img src=

The F18 has a small sail plan for your weight. Nigel and Tammy sail at around 265 and don't have any problems righting the boat. The Hobie 20 is a lot more boat than the F18. Not trying to change your decision just think you guys would have more fun sailing in a bigger class.

I have the small sail plan on my F18 - sailed a couple of races at 285 and did well. Sue Korz placed third at the 2005 Nationals with the small sail plan.

Both classes - F16 and F18 - allow for some much-needed flexibility and consumer choice. Hard to go wrong either way. F16 is growing, too.

One main thing he is looking at is that it can be sailed either one or two handed. Plus-the boat only weighs 240lbs-much lighter than the F18's and NO minimum crew weight. So when I can't sail Oley will be able to go on his own.
We will stay on the 20 and fly the spin till it sells. See you at the Pee Dee Classic!!??
