In need of a set of used H16 or Hobie Wave sails, and Trampolines. Old, dried, discolored, or damaged sail would be OK for me. Sails and trampoline not needed for actual sailing. Please contact me with any information at Infante_fernando_ME@yahoo.com. Thank you. Fernando Infante.

Doug,

Thanks for your quick response. Unfortunately, since you are in Texas, buying your whole boat is kind of out of the question. I am actually looking for just the sails and the trampoline for specific purposes, so I would really be looking to get only those items if your are willing to sell them by themselves. As an advise, last year I parted my H16 and it was by far a much more profitable way to sell the boat, since there are many more people to complete their boats than there are looking to buy and old one. Your hull would be especially sought.

Regards,
Infante

Fernando,
I'll bite -- what are you going to use them for if not for sailing? And why specifically sails and tramps from those two particular boats?

Mary,

Thnaks for replying. I need the parts for a display, and the mock-up boats are basically the same size as the ones I mentioned. So, do you think you can help me?

Thnaks,
Infante

No, I can't help you. We never throw anything away.

What kind of display?

Mary,

I am intrigued by your interest to know more, even when you have established that you can’t help.

What do you mean by you do not throw anything away? I mean to pay for the used sails I am trying to find. I just mentioned that I wouldn’t mind buying unusable sails because I need to pay the least possible price.

The display represents the damage of last years’ hurricanes. I lost my H16 to Wilma, and a friend lost his Wave.

Pornography???!!! I see what’s on your mind. (SEE ORIGINAL PRIVATE MESSAGE BELOW)

I am an honest, decent person, and yes the items I need are needed to make money, and with that money sail my boat, so in the end it’s for the purpose of sailing. Your “police wannabe” attitude is sad and inappropriate, my post were open and for everyone’s view, and response. Sadly for you, there are many other good Catamaraners that understood my point and without giving it a second thought, helped my cause. I thank them, and I feel sorry for you. As of today, I will never use your forum again, for even though it is yours (or maybe not), many users view it as a means of contacting other sailors, so if profit is what you want, state it clearly in the process of thread posting.

Lastly, just so everyone knows, I did try your classifieds service before, and all I got was emails from scammers. Very, very inefficient classifieds.

Your posts on our forums

From: Mary

The reason I am interested in your motives is that you have basically posted a "Wanted" ad on several of our forums, and I don't think you have paid for a classified "Wanted" ad in our Classified section.

The forums are not supposed to be used for advertising things for sale or for trying to find things to purchase. I let some things slide, but yours was very flagrant because you posted it on so many forums and because you did not give any reason for wanting the items.

For all we know, you could be wanting these materials for some profit-making venture, like making something about of these used or damaged sails and tramps. Or you could be using it for some kind of pornography display. No way to know.

If you had just placed one post on the open forum explaining exactly what you needed these things for and how you were going to use them and why, it would have been different.

Even now, I do not fully understand exactly what this display is and where it is going to be displayed and why. If you can explain the whole thing to me, I will be happy to post something myself to help you find the items you need.

What can I say? I have a suspicious mind, and I am just trying to protect all the extremely helpful people on this forum, some of whom might be upset if they sell you these parts and find that they have been used for some purpose they would not approve of.

All you have to do is explain your project, and then you might have people actually donating parts to you.

When somebody wants damaged trampolines and sails, and says they are not going to be used for actually sailing, and will not explain what they ARE going to be used for, one has to wonder.

Occasionally, somebody will post on more than one forum when they are looking for cheap or donated boats or parts for a youth program or other nonprofit sailing program or project, and nobody has a problem with that.

Cernicalo1,

If you are looking for sympathy from us, you're not likely to get it. Rick and Mary dedicate a lot of time and energy to make this website and the magazine work. It's their site and their rules. I see nothing wrong with Mary's PM to you and I think it was bad taste for you to post it here expecting some sort of reaction. If you have a problem with the rules and someone in particular deal with it privately - it's how they tried to handle it. It's pretty standard that most forums don't allow open solicitation for goods for sale or wanted but I'm certain it wouldn't be an issue if you have some sort of 'for public good' project.

Jake, Mary, and whoever else needs the power trip from running this forum:

Do not contact me again. I do not care about your useless site, you can keep it the way you have it. I am sorry for the good sailor enthusiasts who associate with you in good faith, and for the purposes of promoting sailing. NOT JUST MAKING A PROFIT. I am going sailing somewhere else, where the people are not so anal.

Ok, now you cross the line. Get out and stay out. NEVER ever even consider talking trash about Mary and Jake, as they only try to help people on this forum, ALL the time. I personally know both of them, and your trash talking against them is completely unwelcome here. I'm sure that everyone here agrees. Don't jump in here and start throwing accusations and talking crap that you can't back up.

OK guys, everyone will jump in and defend Mary and Jake. We all know the quality people these two folks are.

If a newbie jumps in and attacks, there is no base for it. Let it go. If we continue to reply to this thread it will only keep it alive.

HOPEFULLY this is the LAST reply

Regarding classified ads on this web site:
First of all, Jake is correct that the forums on this site, as with most sites, do not allow posting about things people want to buy or want to sell.

The exception is for things that people are seeking (usually as donations) for worthwhile nonprofit programs or projects (like to benefit youth sailors or the disabled or elderly or the Boy Scouts....)

I also don't have any problem at all with posts trying to track down hard-to-find parts for out-of-date boats. There are hundreds (maybe thousands) of years of experience and knowledge among the users of this forum, and it is the best place to get answers. Classified ad probably wouldn't work well in those cases.

As far as the Classifieds section on this web site, it does not contribute to the support of the web site. When you buy a classified ad, you are buying an ad to place in Catamaran Sailor Magazine, which is a print publication that comes out eight times a year. The ad costs $10 per issue of the magazine. THAT is what the $10 supports, and I can testify that the magazine does not make a profit -- it does not even break even. It makes just barely enough to cover the costs of printing and mailing and we make nothing for our time in putting it together.

In addition to putting the classified ads in the magazine, we also put them on the web site, for FREE, as a bonus for advertising in the magazine. We just felt that it would give the ads a lot more exposure to be on the web site, as well.

If anybody is having a problem with too many scammers because of their ad on the web site, they can just ask us to leave it off the web site and only place it in the magazine, since that is what they are paying for.

By the way, most people do not have a problem with ad scammers on the web site if they just use their phone numbers and not their e-mail address.

Cernical, so... are you trying to scam an insurance company, or what?

In any event you are evasive at best, and WAY OUT OF LINE with the kind owners of this forum!

Cosmic Hint: your lack of maturity does not bode well for solving your lack of money problem.
