I hate to bring religion to the forum, but look what is happening in SC!!

Man, this could ruin some good, fun regattas!

I would love to dive head first into this one, (as much as I disagree with religious "gerrymandering")BUT... keeping things on track... why would this necessarily ruin regattas?

Oooohhh Crap...and we were just beginning to make progress getting rid of some of the "blue laws" so we can buy beer on Sunday! At this moment in Greenville County, restaurants can buy a $500/week license to be able to sell booze on Sunday but we still can't purchase anything outside of a dine-in establishment. Just two years ago the law was changed to allow the special "Sunday Sales" license. So much for that idea.

That's not to mention that the county also refuses to allow restaraunts "free pour" licenses...every mixed drink must come from a mini-bottle (as if, somehow, that regulates the amount of alcohol in a mixed drink - there's more liquor in a mini-bottle than would normally be applied).

I don't know why either ...we have no empirical evidence this would ruin catamaran races. But then again, I'm not sure catamarans already existed in the Dark Ages...

Sorry - I couldn't resist to this post...the evil temptation was just too large.

There was a thing about this on Jon Stewart's show. The "movement" included a total of like 10 people, and the founder had not yet made any plans to move, though he was promising his "people" he would get around to it.

The whole concept behind "blue laws" seems flawed obviously. If someone wants to get loaded on a Sunday (or before noon on sundays in Fl) or after midnight during the week or after 2am (depending on state) then they will get loaded.
In the end, the movement would annoy the hell out of me- not because I am a raging atheist but mainly because I can't STAND people trying to tell me how I should or should not live.

I really don't think it would ruin any regattas--I was just being facetious. The blue laws are bad enough, but if they get worse, a lot of regattas (read: parties) could be tamed down.

I'm not crazy about their reasons, but the scary thing is how organized they are!

Why South Carolina anyway? it's not like it's Sodom and Gommora down there, except for Jake's Motor home!!

And to continue that point, the blue law actually makes you drink more! If you're at the store on Saturday and think you might kick back and have a couple Saturday night, you buy a 6 (or 12) pack right? Cool.. Sunday rolls around and you think, hmmm, could have another beer..but that would involve a trip to the store and you decide it's not worth it and go on about your day.

Insert blue law. On Saturday at the store you think "might want a beer tonight". Hmmm....Mark might stop over Sunday afternoon to help with the car or I might want a couple while watching the game...I buy a case instead. Now I have no choice but to sit around Sunday and work away that case of beer because it's there.

Ahhhemm...and leave my RV out of it!

Do they sell Robitussin on Sundays? If so, it works just as good.

Blue laws are good for you.
They only let those folks drink on Sunday who are smart enough to plan ahead with their alcohol purchases, and As much of a pain in the Butt as they are, they do limit some casual alcohol consumption by those not smart or sober enough to plan ahead.
Who wants a bunch of thoughtless drunks hanging around anyway?
And Jake: We'd leave Shasta out of it if only there had not been so much beer cycled through her.
Surprised Shasta does not have an honorary Sunday Beer Permit by now.

yes, but those thoughtless drunks will get drunk anyway... and if they are hardcore drinkers then it is probably a good thing they don't let the stores being closed stop them- alcohol withdrawal is a bad thing

Oh hell, why not, I'll bite. Im gone about an hour from here and my state is under attack. Cant we get Sam or Wouter involved in this and make it even funner? What other can of worms can I open. Lets see, heres my choices...

Windgate...wait..I already did that in another post
The Confederate Flag....yes its still an issue some 200 yrs later
H vs N
F18 vs F16
NF18 vs Infusion
smitty Vs. ...hell everybody that knows him
Sllicon Vs Natural
Wax Vs wetsand
GWB Vs OBL
Ford Vs Chevy
Gamecocks Vs Tigers(Clemson)

you get the point....maybe...these quacks arent going to ruin S Carolina, we have plenty of people who are doing that for us right now. But on the other hand, the weather is nice and I can be at the Beach or in the Mountians in 2 hours either way. I get a stiff drink everytime, I have a case of beer for sunday(commonly known as "sunday beers" around here, a precious commodity might I add), and the girls, well the girls rock.
Y'all come on down, I'll have a Sunday Beer for ya waitin...
ya hear?

lucky for me the bible belt is mostly an upstate phenomenon in s.c. the coastal towns including hilton head, beaufort, charleston, myrtle beach- are less hung up and allow beer and wine purchases 24/7. plus we have the best sailing! aaargh, matey!

What? Rejection of Utah East? What Blasphemy!
(As a former high school classmate of Jim Bakker, I've seen it all)
