Marstrom M18 vs Marstrom A Class
Sam,
Håkan Fröjdh has an M18 web page at:
http:/
The M18 is 2.5m wide and 70kg ready to sail with gennaker
e
For these kind of details there is only ONE source you can trust; The Texelrating system webpage at
http://www.texelrating.knwv.nl
M18 specs.
Length= 5,45 mtr = A-cat
Weight ex spi = 78 kilogram = NOT 70 kg's = heavier than A-cat
Mainsail area inc mast = 15,13 sq. mtr. = 1,5 sq. mtr. more than A-cat
Luff length = 8,93 mtr = comparable to marstom A-cat.
Width is not given but that is 2.5 mtr.

Another useless post from weezer, the dutch doofus.
I didn't ask about the length. DUH, it an M18, as in "eighteen feet",
I didn't ask about width. (That is published)
I didn't ask about the sail area.
I didn't ask about the luff length (who cares?)
I know all about the Texel rating.
I know that the Texel rating is just a bunch of measurements taken on a particular boat on a particular day.
I know that the Texel has been shown to be in error many times.
WE (people who actually race) know that boat weight can vary for a new boat design as the builder works out any kinks.
I am not surprised that you would take the Texel rating as gospel.
We are very familiar with your simple-minded ignorance.
Where is your Tiafoon boat? You have been "building" it for two years.
How many times have you raced this year? Where and on what?
Physically the M18 is a wider A-class with a spinnaker. From what I am told, the width makes a big difference in stability and speed. Keep in mind this is pretty much a custom boat. I know from talking to Goran Marstrom that they can build this as a 1 person or a 2 person or a 1 person sometimes 2 person boat. This is done by changing mast stiffness and sail cut. You can also convert a A-Class to a M-18 with a kit. For what else they can do, you need to talk to Marstrom.
well well..
shame you need to insult without re-reading your own question.
OK W didnt answer the strength question.. But since its been stated the hulls are the Marstrom "A" its reasonable to assume the hulls are the same strength. As for tubes I would suggest they are spec'd for the extra beam and weight carried but not a lot more.. Im sure an engineer can work out the extra carbon used by deduction from the published and actual weights of the Marstrom A and the Marstrom M18.
So to answer, as it appears you want the questions answered.
What are the differences between the Marstrom M18 and A Class? the answer as you seem to want it is: its published on the Marstom werb page
Weight? the answer as you seem to want it is: its published on the texel web page
Width? the answer as you seem to want it is: is published on the Marstom web page
Strength? the answer as you seem to want it is: read between the lines on the Marstrom web page. Then use your degree to work out the additional strengthening.
suggestion next time just look it up yourself
Sam wrote : "I didn't ask about width. (That is published)"
But Sam wrote in his first post :
"What are the differences between the Marstrom M18 and A Class?
Weight?
WIDTH ?
Strength?"
And now you tell me you didn't ask about the width.
Than you compound by saying :"I didn't ask about the sail area."
No, you just asked about the difference between the M18 and the A-class and since the mainsail area is different I included that.
Gee, what a fool I am.
>>I know that the Texel rating is just a bunch of measurements taken on a particular boat on a particular day.
How little you know ! Maybe they should measure it on other days than that particular one and satisfy you. And if we did did the same with the ISAF system, which included in the plot to deceive you, than that would be perfect.
>>WE (people who actually race) .
You race ? Can you please point me to a few weblinks with race results were your name is shown ? Because I failed to notice any of them thsi year.
>>>know that boat weight can vary for a new boat design as the builder works out any kinks
Sure, that is why differences of 20 kilograms or more between brochures and real boats are caused. Are you the kind of person that takes a second hand car dealor at his word ?
Ohh, Sam, please provide me with your latest personal e-mail I'm going to have my day pretty soon. I'll give you a hint it has something to do with the Typhoon.

I've looked up a few your result in 2002 on the devision 9 webpage.
Man I'll give you one compliment; you are very consistant in your placings.
Shall we leave it at that or do you really want us to compare race results. To give you a hint; I have never placed where you have placed yourself several times in a row.
