More Speed Coming to This Site
I have been aware of this Forum and our Store being a bit slow at times (hmmm! sometimes very slow) <img src=

So, within two weeks we are making a major change that will make both of our boxes zip along. This will be a bit expensive, but I believe well worth the extra money.
Now, if we could just make some money.., other than spend it.
Perhaps get everyone to try shopping on our store at www.OnLineMarineStore.com
thanks,
Rick
Instead of buying a bigger server you should look at adding a cache to buffer the server. It's cheaper that an upgrade and, as an added benefit, will prevent your server from being hacked. Take a look at http:/

An even cheaper way si to turn off the "unread" posts calculator on the front page of the Forum.
It means you loose the red (n) after each forum but it saves processor power.
You then have to look at the lightbulbs on the left hand side to work out if there are new posts in a forum:
I am sure the geeks on this forum will overwhelm you with suggestions, warnings and reccomendations. I would however be very careful in going for a virtual server solution based on MS Virtual server. This with basis in many years in the web hosting business and general IT system management (10 years in "the business" next year)
Speed seems to be as good or better than 99% of the sites I use (I am also in IT for 13+ years) lots of research and I use a lot of high end vendor sites.
If you are getting complaints, find out it the users have broadband or are using dialup, could be on their end.
Also as was mentioned, Be carefull of the virtual server solution.

Yea Rick the online store is only problem I see and I am on high speed cable (Road Runner). Forums are fine, don't change them. Just went to http://www.onlinemarinestore.com/ and it is slow too.

Rick, Has something changed on the forum regarding the "new post" numbers. Maybe it's my computer, but up to now, when I clicked on a thread, the number of new posts disappeared once I had read the thread. I would then know when another new post arrived. Now the number just stays and increases.
You have to leave the forum and open it again to reset the numbers. Am I imagining this ?

It's working fine for me too - I've noticed no change other than there's a bit more activity here recently.

Thanks guys,
I am in the Flat mode. There are numbers beside each thread showing the unread posts. I have just seen that Simon mentioned something about turning off the calculator, although I have not done this purposely. It's late I will check it out in the morning - before doing battle with Wouter again
