N 5.2 trap wire length?
My old 5.2 is a single trap boat. I want to install another set of trap wires on the boat. Boat is stored at the lake with the mast up and it is too cold to drop the mast and measure my existing wires (or I am too lazy...) Does anyone know what the length the wires should be? I would like to go to the local West Marine store and make a set of wires so when I drop the mast, I can put it right back up.
The existing wires have the shock cord ran thru the front beam with a turning block in the end of the beam. Do I run the second set the same way, or should the shock cord go under the tramp? I assume that the back set of wires will also need a block for the shock cord to run thru and I could attach it to the shroud adjuster. I already have an extra set of trap handle/adjusters that match the original (don't know if that is good or bad, but they match).
Thanks
Terry
The crew's shock chord should run through the front beam and should hold their trap wire there. The skippers should go through the small pulley on the hull (behind the daggerboard) and go through a gromet in the trampoline, under the trampoline, back up to the other side.
As you probably know, the length only needs to be rough. You can adjust the final length with your trap ring adjusters.
If you do not want to drop the mast, tie a tape measure to your main halyard, hoist it to the hounds where the trap wires attach and measure your wires.
Or you could just roll the boat.
Hope this helps.
