Everything was going kosher until our captain pulled out today. So we are left in a dilemma, either find someone willing to go or lose the charter. Cost and accomodations can be arranged. You are guaranteed a private berth if you captain for us.
The group going on this trip are all members of the NC State Sailing club, some of us racing intercollegiately and are making a trip the southern divisionals this semester. We are all responsible and mature adults and sailors. That being said, we ARE planning on spending one or two nights at dock in Key West. Make no mistake about it though, the captain is in charge on this trip.

How high a captain's license does he have to have? I assume a six-pack license wouldn't cut it, since you have at least 10 people.
Earlier you said it was a bareboat charter, and usually that means you don't have to have a licensed captain aboard. So is this a requirement of the charter company? If so, don't they have captains available that you can hire?
If it is not a requirement of the charter company, is it just that you guys want an experienced person with you who is familiar with the waters, license or not?
The charter company is requiring a captain. I don't know whether its because we are students or what. They have a captain that we COULD hire, but his rate is 200/day + food and expenses, and we simply can't afford that. So we're hoping that someone would want to come along at a discounted rate on a vacation. I've contacted every single sailing contact I have made in the past couple years in addition to posting here. I have some solid prospects, its just that there is this time constraint, technically they've dropped our reservation, but I think they're giving us some slack because they realize the position we're in.
