Greetings,

My name is Ryan, and picked up my first cat this week. I've been sailing lasers and sunfish for a few years and have grown rather bored with them. I hauled home a 1980 Hobie 16 this week. I really hadn't been looking for anything this old nor for a cat, but I couldn't pass up a good deal. I probably won't try to sail it until spring, since it needs a little bit of work.

Aside from the trampoline the boat is in superb condition. Most of the rigging has been replaced in the past couple years and the sails are a few season old.

Coming from a Laser, I'm not exactly sure how to rig the boat. I tried to step the mast today and didn't have much luck. I didn't think it was supposed to weigh so much. At 5'4" and 140lbs it was all I could do to get it stepped.

I've got a ton of questions, so I'm sure you'll see them all before spring.

Regards,
Ryan

Welcome to the club Ryan! A good place to start is the Hobie product support pages. Print of the tuning and assembly manual for some bedtime reading.

Then to really get things figured out, look up your local Hobie Fleet, Fleet 400. Looks like they're out of Toledo. I'm sure someone on this site will be able to hook you up with those guys.

Have Fun!
