New Radio
After many years of great service my Standard Horizon HX350X has finally given up the ghost, that is the Ni-Cad battery won't hold charge anymore.... Getting the battery rebuilt is about $60 at the local Batteries Plus, and they don't make new ones anymore... This has taken a beating over the years, time for an upgrade, and I am going to keep it as a backup and use the AA battery case.
With that I am looking at a few replacements in the way of:
- Icom - M24
- Standard Horizon HX-300
- Cobra - HH-500
- West Marine VHF-160
Any feedback here on any of these models?
I once ran a Standard Hozizon VHF over with a car. Except for the display, it powered up and worked perfectly. I sent it to the factory with a letter explaining exactly what happened, asking for a repair estimate.
They sent me a new one, no questions asked, at no charge.
That was about 15 years ago. I've since purchased 2-3 more from them as batteries have quit. I doubt I'll ever buy any other brand...
