It shows me sailing back from Catalina last summer in August, when I came upon the 80' cruising catamaran "Profligate" of Latitude 38 fame. Anyway, they had some decent photos and a nice article. They were getting ready for the infamous Baja Ha-Ha cruise from San Diego to Cabo, which takes place each Oct.

I'm a little leary about single-handing out in the middle of the ocean with no other boats nearby. If you fall off, you're really hosed! Did you use a safety harness or something like it?

From what I understand, Alan, the sailor in the photo, has made many crossings to Catalina Island and is planning on doing his SIXTH San Diego to Ensenada Race this year, all on beach cats. Gotta luv it. His web site is

Once there was a pastor who was asked to be a guest speaker at a neighboring church. He was asked to preach a sermon about sex. His wife asked him what his topic was. He was embarrassed and uptight about the whole thing, so he lied, "Sailing." His wife was unable to attend his guest sermon appearance.
A few days later, she ran into one of the people who heard his talk, and asked how it went. The person said it went quite well, and the pastor seemed "quite knowledgable on the topic." The pastor's wife was taken aback and said,"How could he possibly know much about it. In the 25 years we've been married, we've only done it twice. The first time, he got sick. The second time he fell off!"
