Recoating of Black H-17 rudders?

What works and what should I not use? Mine are oxidized and I would like to get the gloss look back on them. thanks.

Hi Sam,

Mine were the same way.

Someone with many years of Hobie experience told me to use the black appliance epoxy spray paint.

Sand them just enough to give the paint a "bite", wipe them thoroughly with acetone(IMPORTANT), apply thin coats and let dry between coats, apply as many coats as needed to smooth out.

The paint can be sanded, but you lose the shine.

This paint is very tough and doesn't add as much weight as a gel coat.

Yea, Sam, Are you coming down to the Tommy Whiteside Regatta at Lake Murray, May 18 & 19? Now a Hobie Points Regatta.

ok...Well did it this weekend. looks good! Found that Xylene works a little better than acetone to strip off old contaminates. It was a learning experience. Thanks for all your help
