Please, Catsailors, enlighten me.
What is the optimum length of a spinnaker pole? Can it be too long? Too short? Just right? How can it be determined?

I have a 14' FG pole and a factory Spin for my Hobie 20. I need to know the pole length before I place the tang up top..
Thanx in advance for your expert advice.

Eric,

It has everything to do with the shape and size of the spinnaker and a little about the boat. I would take luff, leach, and foot measurements and place a call to the manufacturer of the chute.

The Hobie 20 chute is small: It does NOT want a long pole if tacked to the end.

Eric, doesn't your boat have a tang up here already?

Have you looked at the class rules? They should have something in there about max. pole length. Maybe the parts list might have the length mentioned in the parts description.

I would start out with the pole longer. You can always cut it shorter but you can't make it...........You know.

Looking in the Murray's catalog, the spin package for the Tiger is the same as the one for the H-20, sail and pole.

Nope, there is the hound for the shrouds and trap wires, but nothing up above.
