I don't remember whether this particular video has been posted on this forum before, but doesn't matter, because it is worth watching again...and again...

The sound track isn't bad either by a great aussie chick, Vanessa Amorosi.

I love those big tri's! What is that hydrofoiling thing with a single mast?

Not a Hobie TriFoiler, but some odd looking speed machine using a Hobie logoed sail of some kind. The video is Euro, so could be a number of different Euro Hobie rigs.

Watching a big cat fly a hull is a thing of beauty. To watch those big tri's fly two hulls is almost poetic. Does anybody make a beach-tri? Something that doesn't cost more than what I've made in the last decade?

What would be the advantage of a 16' trimaran over a 16' catamaran?

Try http://www.rowvirusboats.com/sailing

They make a nice 21 foot tri but I doubt it will fly the center hull with those tiny ama's on it. I would love to strap two Inter 20 hulls to that thing and replace the mast/sails with the Inter 20 mast and sail plan, then I'll bet you could fly the center hull.

I think way back about 20 years ago, the French had a Formula 28 racing Tri class (I've seen some pictures). This was before they went all the way to the 60 footers. I would love to get my hands on one of those old 28's.

I dunno..I personally doubt much. I really don;t get impressed by the Tri's untill they are capable of (typically) flying the main (center) hull. I'll take a cat any day over a tri until you get to the ORMA 60's ....now THAT is a freakin dream machine!!! One dream I think is probably well beyond me....ever!!

The advantage of a cruising tri over a cruising cat is the volume for accomodations in the center hull.

Don't you kind of have that backwards? <img src=

/> For cruising cats and cruising tris of comparable length, the cats have FAR more interior space and accommodations.

The key here is the size of the boat. For smaller lengths, say under 30-35 feet you'll get better room down below in a performance cruising tri. Bigger than that the cats rule.
