This looks like an awesome toy! Was there some way to keep righting moment without adding ballast in both hulls? I wonder what the all-up weight was.

He would be better served to put the ballast off the sides (like trapezing) rather than in the water. There would be a little offsetting of each ballast but it would easily be an advantage over the drag of the bulb in the water.

I had a one meter catamaran similar to that one (using the same sail size) though it was too wide. It would pitchpole as soon as it started to fly a hull.
