TROPHEE CLAIREFONTAINE

Trinité-sur-Mer, France: Loïck Peyron won the 13th Clairefontaine Trophy in

convincing fashion, never finishing worse than 3rd place in any of the nine

races, and taking 1st in five races. This is his 6th victory, he had five in

a row from 1995 to 1999. Last year's winner Michel Desjoyeaux finished in

third, behind Tornado Olympic Medallist American Randy SMith, one of only

two non-French sailors invited this year. The regatta was sailed on 25 foot

one design catamarans built expressly for the event.

Final Results:

1- Loïck Peyron, 70 pts (1,2,2,1,1,3,1,1,3)

2- Randy Smyth, 43 pts (6,6,1,2,4,2,2,7,1)

3- Michel Desjoyeaux, 34 pts (7,1,5,4,3,5,3,4,2)

4- Franck Cammas, 33 pts (5,3,3,3,7,1,6,2,5)

5- Christine Briand, 19 pts (2,7,7,7,2, 7,4,3,7)

6- Ellen MacArthur, 14 pts (3,5,4,6,6,Ab,8,5,6)

7- Kito de Pavant, 11 pts (4,4,6,8,5,6,7,6,8)

8- Roland Jourdain, 10 pts (Np,Np,Np,5,8,4,5,8,4).

Nice post,...thanks..

....is that 3 people I see on board?.....there seems to be a driver, one on trap,..and one ( in green) walking up the tramp at midline......yes?

...25 foot cat,.....definately yes........where can we get a ride on these...?

...from the race results,...I see Randy was just 'getting dialed in'.......another few races would have had interesting results.......

From the looks of it, there seem to be 2 boats almost on top of each other.

My guess would be that the guy in green is actually on the wing on the other boat.

(wouter) Yes.

(wouter) I think these boats are sailed like large skiffs. A skipper holding the helm and doing tactics, sweethand doing the mainsheet and looking for puffs and lulls, and forward hand doing the jib and spi and looking for the markers.

From my memory the boats are double trapeze and the skipper often sits down on the wing.

(wouter) Yes , but you must be invited to do so. Make a mark in any sailing discipline and you'll be invited although only the really great are actually invited.

(wouter) On the other hand Loick Peyron was dialed in from the beginning and had a lead of no less than 27 points which is halve of the 43 points that was scored by Randy in 9 races. Maybe the "few" should read "quite a few"

Happy sailing Bruce !
