Solcat 18 hardware question
I have a Solcat 18 and I'm having trouble figuring out what hardware I need to connect the bridles to the forestay. This hardware didn't come with it when I acquired the boat. If anyone could take a quick minute and give me the part numbers from Murrays Sports catalog at http:/
Thanks,
Chris
I was on the same situation with my Nacra 5.0. I used a shackle like the "I" one on the catalog and a shroud adjuster (like the "M" or "N" on page 53 of the same catalog). Then I chandged the shackle to one like the "J", because the 90° rotation on the adjuster wasn´t convenient to attach the jib. The problem with this setup is that it is not easy to tension the forestay, but it was good enough for me, because I already had these parts and my budget was limited (many other similar issues to solve)
A good solution is to attach one of the shrouds loose and then adjust rig tension on this shroud instead of the forestay, it is much easier because you can put someone on the trapeze or you can use the sails to apply tension the forestay and the opposite shroud (careful not to capsize the boat on the beach though...). If you try to tension the forestay, you need to aliging the bridles, the adjuster and the forestay to get the shortest distance, you will surely take your time and the guy that is applying tension with the trapeze wire will get tired.. If you tension the shroud, your crew can be sitting on the harness, already enjoying the day..
On this site we have all the parts you should need.
For the forestay shackle, check the following:

The bow shackles are what you need. Attach each bridle wire to the shackle with the pin side up.
Attaching the forestay to the shackle is the next thing.
One simple way is to use good, strong non-stretch line, i.e., http:/
Small line will work as this stuff is very strong. Just take a few wraps from forestay to bow shackle and back up. Do that a few times and you have an easily adjustable and strong forestay set up.
Or you can use a ss shroud adjuster.
http:/
where the lower part of the adjuster goes into the pin end of the bow shackle.
Next you will need a pin and ringpin for the forestay to be affixed to the adjuster.

One of these ideas should help. Hope you shop here! <img src=
