Some Texel 2003 photographs
More to come but it takes time to scan them.
For now alot of picture of Andreas Lutz and Beat Kaeser.
The friday was windy and there was a big surf. No -one sailed.
Saterday (race) saw a good wind and a decent surf. Almost everybody sailed.
Enjoy.

The Nacra will come in at 4 hours and 21 minutes (elapsed time placing 425 and handicap time placing 450)
The hobie will come in at 4 hours and 29 minutes (elapsed time placing 438 and handicap time placing 362)
These two sailors have been keeping eachother company for pretty much the bulk of the race.
These are the nameless crews which make the Round Texel such a big and great event and they are highlighted to little.
The Hobie has sailnumber 15384 which means it is a very old boat.
Way to go guys
H16 : Jacobs (NL) / Bartelink (NL)
N5.5 : Keja (NL) / Overkamp (NL)

We often only look at the big boats and big names, but this guy has carved a reputation out for himself. For many years now he sails Prindle 15's and he is impossibly fast on them.
Each year he ends up in the top 50 of the Texel race. To do so he needs to stay ahead of halve the fleet at texel on elapsed time itself on a boat with second slowest handicap number in the entered fleet.
Each time he dominates the singlehander class often finishing ahead of more than halve of the singlehanders entered which are mostly I-17, Hobie FX-ones, H17 and A-cat or older B class A-cats.
This guy is one of the lesser know hero's of Texel.

Three Hobie 16 were battling it out for the win in the Hobie 16 fleet. Team Schuitema and Boer finally achieved a decisive lead. A lead which they clearly did not have at the Gate at oudeschild as the picture shows. The gate is a little over halveway into the race.
Here in the picture the eventual numbers 1 and 3.
Number two was close by.
107054 hobie 16 Schuitema (NL) / Boer (NL) 3:27:41 overall place on handicap 137th
105540 hobie 16 Lange (NL) / Kelder (NL) 3:35:06 overall place on handicap 172th
694 hobie 16 Schaffer (NL) / Machielse (NL) 3:35:45 overall place on handicap 176th

Auwahhh! This is defiantely a win for the F18's.
In teh picture you can see the mix of F18's and F20 that was typical at the gate at oudeschild
In the picture you see a I-18 leading a Nacra F18 and Hobie Tiger which are ridden on the sterns by two I-20's.

THis boat eventually arrive at the finish as the third boat behind two Tornado's. The first Tornado was DSQ for starting early and therefor Gunnar and Xander are scored 2nd in the elapsed time listigns.
On handicap they still hung on to 9th place overall.

As with common practice, one names the related crews last after the others.
I show the better pics that I have, although I had to reduce resolution to get them into the 100 kb size limit on this forum.
I hope you enjoyed this very private report on the Round Texel 2003 and I hobie I have done justice to all flavours of designs that are found out there.
I will now end with the Taipan 4.9 spi sailed by Geert and Raymond.
Till next year !
