Some Texel 2003 photographs
This Taipan crew did everything to get as far away from the camera as possible. On teh beach they were completely crowded in and at the gate they went really wide to avoid sailing into teh hole. It worked as planned but I had to use a 300 mm telelens and a 4 times digital zoom in the photoshop software to get at least something that is mildly nice to look at.
Man were you far away from the camera. So sorry guys, I did my best and I will send all the pictures I have to you.
But I hope to see a race report from you guys on the F16 forum.
Anyone who want high resolution pictures please e-mail me.

This Texel did not favour the upwind/downwind machines like Tornado and M20. The F18 shouldn't be that close!! The two F18 that was closest (2.5 minutes after the leading Tornado) where sailed by world class sailors (Bundock, Booth...)
Both Marstrom (M20) and Larsen (M20) had some minor problems that cost them some time.
The forecast said wind from West and I guess that there where no bigger parts of the race that was directly into the wind or? To performe with a Uni rigged boat you would need winds from the North, that makes round texel more of a upwind downwind race instead of a reaching race. That was the case when I sailed round texel with M18. Light wind from North and that was GREAT!

Yes, but his is a very succesful H16 sailor and there alot of F18 and F20's sailing around. And like always crew capability make so much more difference than a handicap number or even design ever does.
Nevertheless they were quite high in the fleet passing the gate. They sailed well.

Wouter,
High praise goes to you for your excellant reports!
We appreciate it
It was good to see a Caribbean Team in the top ( Figeroua and Hernandez of Puerto Rico)....usually when the water temp drops below 75 F we turn to popsicles and cannot move
Once again, Wouter, great pics and commentary and ...thanks!
