I am working on it. At this point, I am manually deleting them usually with a day, if I am tied up on other projects.
However, I am trying to get UBB to offer a solution to the problem.
I don't think these are real people.

I use UBB for my forum and don't have any trouble at all. It isn't UBB.

What kind of screening do you have for new members?

I screen all mine personally before I approve them. It looks like you let everyone in who registers.

Thanks, Jack. I went over all the registration admin and found what I needed. In order to register it gives you a random scrambled message you must put in the box.
I think that should do it.

I used a customized response required that virtually stopped spam registrations. Most of these people are foreigners from China and eastern block countries... they don't speak English, but can type in random letters. That won't stop them... tried that.

Ours requires an answer to a question like

what is your favorite hobby?

Duhh... sailing. Or where can you use a sailboat... water. What is the name of the website you are visiting?... Catsailor. You can add multiple answers that fit.

They can't seem answer these questions.

Next... moderate the first 1-2 posts of new users.

It is sad what has happened to the internet. EVERYTHING on the internet is trying to sell you something or scam you. There is no shame or ethics. The spammers are like muggers, violently marketing to you, and they will keep it up until the whole system is corroded to uselessness. I find the internet is less useful to me than it was ten years ago. And, I definitely use it less than ever. So now it is here at Catsailor, too. What a killjoy.
