Spi for Stingray
Ive just got a newer stingray 18ft x 8ft with 32ft mast 225 square ft sail area. I want to put a spi on it and have access to a 505 with 12 ft pole and new spi and fittings.
Would this size be any good as an intro to spi's? or would it be too small to make any difference?
Thanks for both the replys my old stingray had the small rig 30ft heavier hulls especially at the end of the day the new one is 32 ft much lighter hulls also thanks for the advice on the spi I wondered if it would be big enough I can probably use the bits and pieces of the 505 and look for an old spi. I will post pics at end of the project
Not an A sail, but the Euro Stingray main. Same sail area as the old Stingray, but higher aspect square top.
If you are looking at converting, chase up a guy called Marcus Towell whome I believe sails at Adelaide SC and check out his Tornado (if he still has it) and his Blade F18 for ideas.
here in south aus we have 2 stingarays with spi's they have tryed our f18 spi's they are two long in the luff. if you want contact victor harbour sailing club they have a web page to get photos and details THE SHADOW is one of the converted boats www.vhyc.org.au cheers
Good on you Danny! thats the sort of info I didnt want to find out the hard way. Your probably familiar with my boats Ive just parted with the old
Red boat
and have now taken on
Men Behaving Badly
. Im trying to stay relevant in the club now that a couple of the others have stepped up to bigger boats with spi's.
regards
Took the decks of the new boat today to discard the foam inside and decided to take the tape measure to the mast and worked out its only 30ft not 32ft sorry to mislead you can only blame it on the beer anybody got a really quick way to get rid of a pile of silicon. I am currently using acetone but with all the little nooks and cranies no way I can rub it all of, really need to disolve it then wipe it away
thanks in advance
