Received this from Mr. Ernie, please read. Thank You
*
Spring Fever Regatta 2008*
*March 21-23, 2008*

The Army Corps of Engineers have notified us that due to a $1+ million
cut in their operating budget for 2008, we will not be allowed to hold
our regatta at the Milltown Campground this year. I won't go into all
that we have done in an attempt to get this changed but it just isn't
going to happen.

Short of canceling the event, we have contacted the Western Carolina
Sailing Club about holding it there and have received tentative approval
pending our letting them know, by February 2nd, of our intentions and
itinerary.

Should we decide to hold it there, we will, out of necessity, have to
limit some of the activities that we have always had in the past. They
have a very fine clubhouse with restrooms and showers where we will be
able to serve our meals and hold our evening get-togethers. Unlike
previous years we will not have any planned activity for Thursday
evening, and will only serve pizza on Friday night, with a Honey Baked
Ham dinner on Saturday evening. No lunches will be served; however,
there will be appropriate refreshments available both evenings. This is
not yet set in stone, but it looks like it is about the only way we can
handle the logistics as it will still have to be done by our local
Hartwell group of neighbors who live 45 minutes to an hour from there.

Just as in previous years, it will still be a full three days of racing.

They do not have a campground, but there is plenty of room to pitch
tents and park RVs out in front near the water. There are no hookups or
dump stations on the premises. I know this is a problem for some but
they will not permit any pets on the premises. We will be able to start
setting up on Thursday.

We have not finalized the agreement with WCSC as yet and have until
February 2nd to do so.

In order for us to put on this regatta this year we will have to have a
_minimum of fifty (50) pre-registrations by February 1st.
_
Please go on line and pre-register at:

Hope to see you in the Spring,

......Mr.Ernie

There are a number of other parks and campgrounds on the lake that have NOT been closed by the Corps. Are none of those feasible for the regatta?

The problem is the storage of the massive amount of food and housing for the regatta volunteers. Nigel has been able to provide all of this with the close proximity to his properties. The problems with hosting it at other parks are the same whether we have it at at another state park or at Western Carolina Sailing Club but Western Carolina is closer to the available housing for the regatta volunteers by land and water but too far away from the refrigeration.

The Western Carolina club is a great facility with a large clubhouse and tons of open space for camping and RV's. They have a really nice large body of water out in front of the club. It is a bit more accessible from the interstate as well.

The drawbacks are a loss of some of the gracious hospitality from Nigel and Tammy and the lack of quick access to refrigeration affects the meals that can be provided.

Evidently not. Nigel and Mr. Ernie have been working on this for a LONG time and if they say it is the only option, I am sure that is it. So if we want Spring Fever to happen it is up all of us to pre register, attend and make all their hard work worth while.

Here's a shot of WCSC...obviously in winter with the grass brown. Cat beach far to the left and a shallow launch ramp in that cove.

I am! <img src=

/> 692 miles, 10.5 hours. If the weather is tolerable ( for a wet suit, I'm not buying a dry suit), if some F16s pre-register, if I can get a kitchen pass.

Pete, what a great month for sailing:

Performance Midwinters -- Pensacola Bch
F16 / Acat Invitational -- Gulfport
SpringFever -- Anderson, SC

If you go to SpringFever you can stay with me ... albeit I'll be about 45 minutes from the Club.

It will depend mostly on weather. When do you need a committment?

What are you sailing at P'cola?

How about that?! Hibernate for a few months and things change. Wow.
