OK, So they're in!!

I just got back from the beach and there were about 15 boats and more arriving. Jake Kohl from Team Seacats reported that they broke a rudder off a short time into the race and had to sail about 60 miles holding onto what was left of the crossbar. i have some digital pics of them with rudder in hand but have no idea how to post them. Everyone i talked to said they had a blast!

Was it the rudder, casting or the gudgeons?

Dave

Jake said it was the stainless eye that holds the castings to the gudgeons that sheared. Then it bent the lower gudgeons badly.

Yeah - that's it. It was the stainless eye that sheared off. It appeared the the weld may have been cracked for some time. Once that broke, it bent the lower gudgeon severely. It took some doing just to get the casting off the back of the boat. We phoned the ground crew but got their voice mail because they were wrestling with a blow out on the RV on the narrow A1A out of the keys! We decided to see how she sailed on one rudder, and besides being a little handicapped without both of us on the wire, we were making good speed - so we carried on. David drove the hell out of the boat.

We posted the complete stories and new photos on www.teamseacats.com
