I am sure some of you remember the enthusiastic but misguided guy out on the cape. Who went out in jeans on his hobie in early spring (and died). I am intrested in finding a copy of that thread including his posts prior to embarking on his journey. I think it would make a good safety instructional case. So if anyone can help me locate the postings associated with that case it would be aprreciatied. thanks

I think I found what you are looking for by doing a Search on this forum. Here is the URL for that particular post:

This thread should be recyled every once in a while. I am sure most of the people who participate on this forum are safety concious. For some it would seem to be a hard thing to balance with thrill seeking. I just wear my life jacket when I sail, Weather gear if it is cold and sun protection. Then I can go ahead and scare the crap out of myself. Thats not too hard.

may his death not be in vain.

I was out this weekend on the Texas coast, behind a honkin' norther (cold front, for those of you that don't recognize the term) in 14-20 mph beam reach-y conditions, with water temps in the high 60's and air temps in the low 60's. We went out 2 (doublehanded) boats at a time, AND we had both a 406 EPIRB and a VHF radio. We witnessed the Nacra 6.O pitchpoling and hung out to see them right it.

Basically, I guess my point is that the name Sven Schang should be meaningful to ALL beachcat sailors, and that they should all recognize that "the worst" can happen THIS TIME...
If it does, and you aren't ready, you might not be as lucky as the duo that took the 5.2 out in nuclear conditions (see, they lived, their names are forgotten) and had to be rescued by Coast Guard helo, to the dismay of numerous posters to this and other forums across the Web.

Sven, rest in peace.
