Hi Jake
Great very similar class groups ,-both by Performance catamarans .
Do you know how the 6/0 will be rated in P rating ,-no "class" spin size ,-is the .972 used ,-how are variable spin sizes rated ,-270 sq ft --300 sq ft --346 sq ft --and 400 plus sq ft chutes on 6/0s presently used ,
Base dpn is 62.9 w o spin --
mods -- http://www.ussailing.org/portsmouth/tables02/modifications01.htm
quite a complex list that often just applies one number through huge variation ,-such as spin sizes listed .
The Texel rating -Euro version -Inter 20 -Formula 20s has a
96 rating ,-and the 6/0 w spin has a 96 rating .
Performance is the Co that builds different specification versions in Europe and N A and would need adjusted rated SA .
The numerous different existing versions of 6/0s -original --Cathouse version -Express ,-other modified versions with spin ,-and N A versions now modified by no class spin size established seems problematic with no good solutions for all .--
Of course the ideal is to let the 6/0 continue to upgrade modification to equal the I-20 along with numerous other 20s in N A to form a N A Formula 20 Class .
It may take a year or two ,--as N A catsailors begin to see how well Formula 16 --18 --AND -18HT Class racing works it is inevitable that sailors will race 20s similarly in Formula Class.
The adaptations to Texel for use in N A will compliment the class group racing oriented structure and really help promote the sport .
This along with local clubs using a more learner friendly individual handicap system , properly applied based on members times . It allows new sailors that improve ,-particularly youth catsailors to recieve a trophy or pennant occationally ,--much better application of a time based handicap system .

Carl,
I can only guess how the 6.0's will break out or if any of them will have a 'class' chute (so far I suspect only one). I certainly can't speak for the race committee but if it were up to me, there would be a class scored for the 6.0NA without spinnaker and if there are enough in compliance and agreement, a second class scored for the 6.0NA with spinnaker. The handicap rating would only come into play if only a couple 6.0NA sailors insisted on running their chutes and ended up in the open class.
Since my spin does not meet N.E. specs I would gladly be in the non-spin fleet for the class competition given this scenario.
