Just putting up a place holder for posting today. I assume the boats are out by now.

The video is up at http://www.catsailor.com/VideoPlayer.html
For some reason

Tybee Day 4

video cuts out at about 10 minutes in.

The videos have been outstanding. Is it just because I know these guys or are these interesting to everyone?

Mike, I only know them from this wonderful forum, and then buying some vids from Brian. I think they are Fantastic! I work long crazy hours, and it is such a nice break to come to these sites and see the vids, reports, and pics!

Today is probably the toughest leg of the race in my opinion. They have to go by some inlets with some nasty currents and funky waves. The waves often come from two directions at points around the inlets. There also isn't much around them and they end up out to sea a bit on this leg.

Anybody know how they are getting the ariel shots? Those are pretty cool.

The Tybee leg is where the race used to really start to get interesting . <img src=

One insider aspect to this years race is Steve and J on one boat and Kenny and JC on the other 26 minutes apart .

The lead boat Kenny and JC were both former crew for Steve and J on earlier years teams .

It a a former crew vs their former skippers boat race .

May make for an interesting story line.

Certainly better than the deer -pier story <img src=

alt=

/> I wrote years earlier about rounding the Myrtle beach piers at night in 6 ft seas and 20 mph winds with spins up half asleep.

I hope the race tightens up this leg to make for an interesting finish .

All the best to all teams ,arrive safe, sail fast, and have fun .

Rick says Brian is using little remote-controlled airplanes with video cameras on them.

I think that is Alan (fun2fly1hull) who is flying the plane. He is ground crew/backup for velocity. Nice guy.

I know Team Velocity Sailing had a remote control airplane with a camera mounted on top. Maybe they are using that aircraft?

From the Tybee site:

Word from the beach is that crew Tad Pecorak is sick and needed to get off the water. As a precaution, they are going to be taking him to the hospital (Flagler Hospital in St Augustine we think). Information is sketchy right now, but we will get more information up when we know more.

Hope all is well....

Rick just called to report that Team Tybee finished at about 5:30, and there is not another boat in sight -- empty horizon.

Kenny Pierce said it was a beam reach all the way, and they were in and out on the trapeze, main traveled out and sheeted tight, and playing the jib sometimes in the puffs.

Space Coast finished about a half hour after Tybee. Third was Tygart, with Castrol 1 about 30 seconds behind. The fifth boat will hit the beach soon.

Velocity had to go to shore to drop off Tad Pecorak, who was taken to the hospital, as noted above. Apparently, he was dehydrated. Another crew replaced him, so Velocity is still in the race.

Any word on Tad? When did Velocity finish? I hope Tad makes a quick recovery. Tad and Trey have been such a fun team to follow!
