I'm looking forward to the Tybee 500 coverage. This is a new format for me, having never really thought about the planning that goes into something like this.

Does anyone have personal knowledge, and time to spare, of the preparation? Things must be getting frantic by now.

If there are peple that are frantic with the preparations now, I feel sorry for them! Actually, the last couple of years have been frantic for us, but this year we seem to mostly have things together. It takes a couple of years worth of experience to understand what you need. A boat that's ready - not just from a performance standpoint, but things need to be reliable, you need to have good storage solutions, your gear needs to be worked out (hydration pack, food, tools, spares, etc.). Then there is the ground crew - this year we're also fortunate to have a ground crew that has a bit of experience as well. It makes it easier on them as well as us as they can help predict things and plan ahead for beach launches and landings. I haven't talked much about our storage solutions that we're using this year - but we'll cover some of that as we go through the week on the website.

Are you asking about preparation for the race or preparation for the coverage? Either way, probably nobody has time right now. Either way, if people are frantic, it is because they are not prepared.

Jake, sounds like you have it down to a science until sh-- starts happening that you could never anticipate. I think that is what would bother me the most- expecting the unexpected. But I guess thats what its all about.

We have posted the first video to the video player, and have started making updates to the www.Tybee500.com blog.

Also, the host hotel has a free Starbucks in the lobby!

The video player is right here on the catsailor web site. Just click on

Video

in the bar at the top of this page.

Rick will also be posting stories on our welcome page, so keep checking that page for updates, and you can access the video player from the bar at the top of that page, too.

Well we've all rounded the light, it seems Tybee was MIA, last we saw one hull was completely under but JC's bailing skills must be great because they are now in the front of the pack. Due to the increased sea breeze I will not be able to post as frequently. oh sh*t, there goes Trey, brb.........

The first boat finished back at Hollywood Beach at 5:35. It's Team Tybee, with John Casey and Kenny Pierce.
Two more boats about five minutes out and three more in sight.

There were 10. Team Chums couldn't make it because of transmission problems with their support vehicle.

Finally got my internet access back. Team Tybee was first to the beach at about 2:05.
Finish order after that was:
Castrol 1, Seacats, Tygart, Space Coast, Castrol 2, Castrol 3 and Velocity.
All are in except for Cat in the Hat.

There are nine boats on the entry list, nine boats started yesterday, nine boats finished yesterday,
nine boats started today, and nine boats will have
finished today if Cat in the Hat gets there.

Bob did not see

Cat in the Hat

at Delray and i did not see it on Singer Island. So something probably happened before Delray.

Cat in a Hat pulled into a beach about 30 miles from the finish line. We heard from them about 1/2 hour ago and they are back on the water. Should be here by around 6 or 7

Mary and all, I would suggest opening a new thread. That large picture makes you use your lower frame toggle in order to see all the posts.

The ugly stuff is moving from inland toward the coast. It has missed my place so far but it is all around. Hope those boys hug the coast. The wind is still at their back until the ugly stuff comes. I will keep an eye out for them here. I am about 15 miles from the finish.

The fleet of nine boats started from Hollywood at 10:00 a.m. The wind was about 8-10 out of the southeast,
so it was a little too much and a little too tight
for them to start off the beach with spinnakers. As soon
as they were on the water and headed north, they popped their spinnakers and were off to Jupiter Beach.

Wind forecast is for 10-15 knots out of the south today,
so it should be a smooth and fast trip.

That was Monday night. If you want to see why they were late, look at the video (top of this page).
