How do you see this blog doing something more or better than we are doing on the current Forum?

I have no idea.., and really do not understand what a blog is or does. To build sale for our OnLineStore, however I had to hire a company to build Search Engine Optimization, and they say blogs are a big part of it, albeit I would think a good forum would be better.

Rick, a blog is typically a sounding board for anyone with a voice/opinion. It typically has 1 author (or only a few). After an article is posted, readers can comment on that article, but can't start a new article or thread.
It is different from a forum as any member of a forum can be the author / starter of a topic
google now ads more SEO value to websites that correctly utilize social media. Blogs, facebook & twitter are very important for SEO.
Does anyone else hate that tag that follows your cursor around?

Basically - where you rank in Google, Yahoo! and Bing searches.
Rick I use a blog (blogger) now and no longer use a regular website set up. Most people I see that use blogs simply under use them and do not understand their true benefit. The Blog is easier to maintain; easier to run overall; plus you get tons of stats; google integration items such as google calendar; can plug into youtube better; get better rankings within google for useing a blog... SEO; etc. And I might add with blogger you can optimize it with a click of a button for mobile devices... a huge benefit; Overall cheaper to run as well. I even converted my lakes and river guide into a blog to better integrate google earth. The next step I am working on is developing an online store... blogs do not work well for that yet... similar to a forum (like catsailor's) but the topics (posts) are created / written only by an authorized author/contributor.
typically displayed newest article first, but now blogs like wordpress are disguised to look like a regular website with links and pages
People can leave comments (if that option is turned on) but can't create new threads

The Blog is for you to share you wisdom and experiences with us in the form of small articles released on a schedule such as daily, weekly, monthly, or when ever you feel like it. The reason it helps with SEO is search engine are always looking for new content associated with the website and blogs with ever changing information are a good source of that. Blogging about things important to this site will bring back search results to people searching about things that are relevant here. The point of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is to try to make your page as close the top page found during a relevant topic search so people find your page. most people rarely look past the first page of results.
There is already a LOT of changing content on here so Imagine your site come in pretty usually anyhow.
