World 1000?

So ..., I stumbled across this website about a sailboat race from Ft Lauderdale to VA Beach in 1998 (see note below) called the World 1000. Was this a temporary replacement for the Worrell 1000? There was a wooden trimaran in it. The last leg (to VA Beach) was cancelled due to weather (35 knot winds from the NE) making the surf almost impassible - however, Rick Bliss and team braved the surf and finished the 1000 miles. Team Australia was the official winner since the last leg was cancelled.

Anyway, I found it interesting.

I found some other media about the World 1000 race in 1989 and the boats in the pictures seem to fit that time frame better. Is the date transposed in the website above? See this release: http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/19... fety-safety-and-seamanship-sailboat-race

Anyone have the details? Looking at Worrell 1000 dates would think this was a one year deal?
