Can be taken a few ways but:
I have a few cans of boat paint laying around (top and bottom), I'm going to try to sell it but I was wondering how old it was, there are some pretty knowledgeable guys on here so I was wondering if anyone knew how to tell the age of a paint can

The paint is Pettit brand and the only indicator that I see are stampings on the lid, one of them says
y828
03085

I appreciate your time and feedback

First digit of the second line is what they said so:

My can says
Y828
03085

According to what they said the first digit is the year, so this paint would be from 2000.

Keep learning!

Just little for warning. If you sell the paint do not ship it without getting a hold of the MSDS. It would need to be packaged, labelled and declared to the carrier as a dangerous goods. If the paint/gelcoat is a hazardous material for transportation the fines range from just $3000-$5000 up to $900,000 or more and up to 5 years imprisonment unless injury or death which would make it up to 10 years.

NICE, I thought that it would attract some attention for one reason or another, that is pretty much why.
