This morning I fired off another batch of "please come back and check out the new site" emails (about 3,800), and the response has been excellent so far. Lots of folks resetting their old passwords and logging in for the first time since the migration.
Things are looking up!
New old members WELCOME BACK share what you have been up to while you were away.Â
Thanks for the welcome back! The site looks awesome! I'm currently without a beach cat, but will get back into at some point. At some point about a decade ago my partner at the time decided she didn't like sailing and so I was only kiteboarding solo and not using my Nacra 5.5, so I found her a new home where she wouldn't be neglected. I
'm still sailing, but in a different form and am currently obsessed with Wing Foiling after a decade of kiteboarding. I have a new partner who is excited about sailing though, so at some point we may get back to beach cat sailing - it's such a fun sport!Â
I have been on the new site (and beta) for a while now, but had to change to a 12 character password to log in today. Did you recently change the password criteria?
@tominpa yes, sorry and hope it wasn't too difficult. Part of the constantly escalating battle against spammers/scammers/evildoers out there.
I recommend everyone use even longer than required random passwords and use a password manager (built into most browsers you dont need a seperate program) to store your passwords. That way you can have a super strong password that is different for every site login, but dont have to remember them.

Damon: Here's two-cents worth from your most simple-minded, low-tech end user...
I think that's what had me so hung up a while back. I was trying to use a short, east-to-remember version of my old password, and it did not meet minimum requirements. However, since I didn't get an error message to that effect, my hard head kept on trying. It might be helpful to have the minimum requirements stated in the areas where we set and change our passwords? (For instance at My Profile>Account>Password, the site indicates that only a six character minimum is required.) And maybe an error message that breifly describes the solution if we try to use a password that doesn't comply?
Yup, I'm here and spring is coming (at least that's what they say). I'll have few questions about configuration details here, but I'm not sure where you'd like to field those. Also, has the old site been totally shut down now?

The question is about the "Subscribe to this topic" check-box when posting/replying. Having it on by default is a PITA - I don't need the extra mail (including the "you've subscribed..." message) and prefer to keep the forum in the forum as much as possible - and don't like having to remember to turn it off with each posting. But I looked around for a place to reset it and couldn't find it. Am I just being stunned?
Thanks - that's helpful. But I'd still like to suppress the notification emails as well. I'm just in too many fora and as a rule try to keep them on the web and not adding noise to my mail. I would think that would be a user-profile setting rather than a global one.
Well the global part was just me changing the default "checked" setting to "unchecked", so members can decide whether to receive the topic and forum notifications when posting. The "Two-Factor" confirmation email is a little annoying but it does prevent you from accidently receiving an email every time there is a new post in a busy topic that you didn't want to subscribe to.
You can manage or turn off all your topic and forum subscriptions in your profile, as well as "mute mentioning emails".Â
In your profile https://thebeachcats.com/member/jonathan162/ there are settings to manage all your topic and forum subscriptions, and also a bell icon that can disable the @ notifications.
And in case not enough people are saying it: You're doing the lord's work. As a sometime sysadmin, I know how much of an effort setting up and maintaining these things are, and doubly so for the migration from the old site. As our world shrinks, there's probably no greater initiative toward keeping it alive than yours. So bravo, and thank you again.

I've been away for a long while. I got one of those E-Mails. Glad to be back. Still sailing my Nacra 5.8NA/Hobie HC21 and vintage Sunfish out of Glencoe, IL.Â
