Can someone help me out.I'm gonna race in the local wed. yacth club where everyone has a PHRF rating can anyone tell me what rating i would use for a Hobie H17 no jib,no spin.I have a oem sail and a Whirlwind squaretop.more than likely just the squaretop will be used. It would be nice if there was some type of catamaran races here in northern MI.It's pretty odd that living in Michigan on the Great lakes and no races that I'am aware of or here of.Anyways can someone provide me with a phrf rating. Thanks ahead of time.

Are you talking about this. http://offshore.ussailing.org/Portsmouth_Yardstick/Portsmouth_Yardstick_Index.htm

Hobie 17 (1-up) H17 74.0
This is the d-pn for a class race boat. If your using different sails you would use the multiplier here.

The Portsmouth yardstick won't work for him in his situation. He will most likely have to get the local club/committee to issue him a PHRF rating.

I did the Portsmouth to PHRF conversion for my H18. It turns out to be 99. Sorry I can't recall the website. I did a Google and found the Texel site that gave the formula. In Michigan, CRAM is the best source of racing. Lake Austin, near K'zoo, hads an active program as well. I'm on Muskegon Lake, and we have 18 cats on that beach, and 8 on the Lk Michigan side. Way cool!

I didn't notice this topic before I answered the other one, so here is a repeat.

PHRF is a locally administered rating system. There is no universal rating for any boat. A certificate would be issued by your local sailing authority, usually a Yacht Club that is running a PHRF based race series.

So you would contact whoever is running the local distance race and ask them to issue a PHRF rating for the Hobie 18, good luck with that!

List of PHRF ranges for many boats (no Hobie 18)
