Hi, I recently bought a 1983 Hobie 16 and am trying to figure out how to reave this Harken mainsheet system. Could anyone refer me to a video/ diagram? and whats the black switch in the second photo? Thanks!

(I tried to link the image from the same facebook post I've made, hope it works)

Here is a 6:1 pattern. the black switch allows the blocks to freewheel or to lock in one direction. In light winds, free-wheel, in heavy winds you get more leverage when you hear the blocks click.

As tominpa wrote, the switch controls a pawl that ratchets inside the blocks. I believe it only controls the center pulley while the others always freewheel. For newbs, I recommend that the ratchet be switched off so that, when you need to dump the mainsheet to avoid a capsize, it plays out as friction-free as possible.
