Has anyone seen the mast floatation device on page 19 of the Hobie catalog? If so do you know what it is made of? it looks like a good idea, some type of foam that you could attach with velcro strips(maybe). Anybody ever seen it used?

yes. I have one. It's actually screwed onto the top of the mast via a bracket.

The outside is a plastic shell. I don't know what type of foam it has though.

It definatly helps though. I sat on my boat while it was tipped over for about 45 mins, while I waited for some help. It didn't turtle. [Linked Image]

There are three floats shown on p19. I assume you mean the one that looks like a foam tube that wraps around the mast and is probably attached with velcro. I bought the most expensive one that looks like a blimp with fin. I had to attach a rod to my mast via rivets. If I had it to do over I would probably go for the foam wrap-around. It looks like it would provide less floatation, but it would not compromise the mast. The other float on p19 seems to be for the Hobie Wave.
