Comp Tip Conversion Status: Is it still done much?
I have all aluminum masts for my '77 &'78 H-16s. I personally would never consider putting a comp tip on them, and since I don't compete, its no problem.
But I'm wondering if conversions to comp tips is done much anymore, since Hobie is no longer doing them for free?
The upgrade only cost $196.20 and takes about an hour, at the most!!!

They seem to be done hit and miss in my experience (which isn't overly broad). I bought an H16 without the comptip and opted not to make the conversion. I don't race class and those that I do race with aren't overly concerned. Maybe because I'm not very fast...
Anyway, the comptip degrades in the UV over time and needs to be replaced. In addition, its just plain weak. If you don't race where a comptip is mandated, don't do it.
