[#17961]

I've had a 16 for about the last 15 yrs or so which I sail in the Gulf of Mex off the Fla panhandle a couple weeks each year. I love the old boat but I have so many kids, nephews and nieces now it's hard for everyone to get their sailing in. I'm looking at buying a Getaway for more capacity and want opinions as to how well it handles seas and wind compared to the 16. When the seas get over 2.5-3 ft I pack it in. Can the Getaway handle these kinds of seas or is it more of a bay boat?

I sailed with Getaways in 3-4 ft. seas and they handled it as well as the 16. I wouldn't want to have it loaded down with people in those kind of conditions.

You might be able to pick up an old TheMightyHobie18 with double traps, cheaper than a new Getaway, and with the double traps, you can put two on the wire, you and one other on the tramp, as long as they aren't too big. I sailed my old TheMightyHobie18 like that several times with my 3 kids.

Thanks for the replies fellas. Maybe I'll just keep my 16 and strap a couple of 6

pvc tubes onto the pylons on top of each hull. <img src=
