ok, i tightened up the tramp today and got an extra 12

of rope down the center and 3

or so on each side. the tramp is as tight as a drum now. thanks

now for the rudders. i noticed that there is a gap on each side of the rudder where it connects to the hull and similar gaps where they connect with the tiller stuff. my first inclination is to just tightne the metal and plastic nuts but i can't imagne i will bend the thick aluminum in. should i just go out and buy some aluminum washers? this would take up the space and eliminate the slop in the rudder.

any advice would be great.

Hobie sells some plastic washers. I just made mine; they work!

Definitely plastic not metal. I don't have enough of the stock washers to do my rudders, so I figured I could cut some out of a roll-up sled. I bet there are dozens of other materials out there that would work.

Don't use metal washers. PVC material would work great if you can find some flat material to make it from. If push comes to shove use milk jug plastic. It probably won't last too long in the sun but, hey, you're probably already buying the milk.

You might check out the article in 'On the Wire'

Vol 1 Issue 7 'Towards The No-Slop Rudder'

www.catsail.com

This is a good rudder tighting article

Just a side note if you trailer your H16 much I would suggest setting up the rudder pins so they are quick release as I have found if you trailer with your rudders on the whole rudder system tends to loosen up from the vibration of traveling. My new H16 rudder system does not seem to loosen up but my old H16 does. Its nice to have a quick release system to remove the rudders as not having the rudder and assembly on keeps them nice and safe.

I bet a lot of people agree. Never trailer with the rudders attached. Just think of what it is doing to the hulls!
