hooter Sail: any news?
Best way to check is to click on "Search" at the top of the Forum, and check that way.
Also, be sure to check the Open Forum as I know there has been a lot of conversations on there.
Just an aside: I used the Hooter on the Wave and have developed almost the same speed as the Hobie 16 -- a bit faster off the wind and a bit slower upwind.
This was a result of the Conch Cup in Miami which was a 1-mile downhill leg, then a 20-mile beat, and a mix-match to the finish.
I was ahead of all 16s at the leeward mark, and by the time we got to the 20-mile upwind area they had all gotten by, but were only about a minute or so ahead.
Wind range was 8-12.
Good luck with your search.

Hi Rick.
That's what I just did: to search both forums. No new info for Hobie 16.
From what I read the hooter sounds like a lot of fun. But I still haven't found any sign of a H 16 with it. I am very tempted to take one with me when I go back to Italy, but I would like to know more on its use on an H 16. Is it possible? what do I need? am I going to have problems (I do not race and I sail often alone)? Is the expense worthwhile?
Never have seen one on a 16, nor a spinnaker, for that matter.
Don't think I would want to single-hand a 16 with a Hooter or Spin however -- sounds like a lot of work. You'd be busier than a one-armed paper hanger, or a one-legged a-- kicker. ![]()
Cost would be around $2000 for all the components, I believe. You can check with Calvert Sails as they do the entire thing. Calvert has ads on this site that pop up in the masthead every few times. Just click on the ad and it will take you to their site.
