Hull Swap Help
My Hobie 16's starboard hull is in pretty rough shape. Delaminated for at least a third of its length, stress cracks, and a fiberglass patch from a trailer accident.
I've found a pair of hulls on craigslist for $40. I want to buy them and swap out my bad hull. Has anyone done this by themselves? I don't even know if me and a friend can get the boat off the trailer for disassembly.
If they are $40 on Cragislist, I'd be very cautious. They are $40 for a reason.
I am about to be doing the same. It looks like it's a matter of removing the bolts and beating on it with a rubber mallet.
I'd spray it all down with some PB blaster a couple days in advance.
This might help. As for getting the boat off the trailer, they're pretty light. I took my boat off the trailer when I rewired the trailer. My brother and I picked the boat up while my girlfriend drove the car and pulled the trailer out from under it.

meh. sounds like a pain.
I just recently swapped out both hulls (due to delamination) on my old 83' 16. I
upgraded
to some much lighter 86' hulls. The swap is easy. Just loosen the bolts and use a rubber mallet to get the bolts completely out. It does help to have someone with you though, just because dealing with the crossbars, which are flimsy when not bolted, and the hulls is a rather awkward process. As far as getting it off the trailer, I unload, rig, and trailer my boat solo most of the time. I also flip it over for inspection by myself. But, I'm a young dude and I don't have much trouble with the weight. If you have a cat trailer it should have rollers, just pull it off the back of the trailer, you aren't going to hurt anything by doing that.
But, like trixtroll said, I wouldn't be buying any hulls of craigslist for 40 bucks, certainly not without a full inspection. Sounds like some dead hulls to me, probably more delam than you already have.
