Jib traveler control system

I'm in the same position,my H16 is an 1982.i was thinking about buying the travelersystem shown in Murray's. If i do however, I will get it thru sailing Pro Shop.Does anyone have any experience with this control system?

I have used two systems:

1st, I tried the Black Plastic cars with Murray's #01-3112. They worked great, but the line does not run as free through the plastic. My crew had trouble trimming the jib tight. I am much bigger and stronger, and this was not a problem for me.

2nd I used the Murry's # 01-3120 System. I love it! Everything works great.

The second option is much better.

I was just looking at the pictures, and feel the need to add a little more information. On the 2nd system listed in my previous post, I had trouble with my sheet getting tangled in the original swivel cleats that are used for the traveler control. I removed these cleats and put a couple ronstan cleats on the corner casting.

The picture of the 01-3112 system shows these cleats mounted on the cross-bar. I initially mounted mine there, and found that they were to low, so I positioned them on the courner casting, and mounted my cheek block approximately where it is on the picture but with a slight angle to ensure the line ran straight through the cleat.

Hobie has sold the same 'Type' of jib car for some time that is shown in the Murrays kit. I liked the looks of them and bought a pair to eventually work into a complete jib system. (Like the Murrays Kit)

After I got them, It turns out that Hobie recently changed over to ronstan cleats, which makes them essentially the same cars that Murrays sells. if I had known this I would have bought the whole 01-3120 kit from Murrays. Oh well...

Maybe the pictures will help with a couple of questions.

The Murrays catalog picture doesn't show a shock cord return system on the 'crossbar picture' Where does the shock cord attach to the cars?? The Buttons??

What holds the button or plunger up and keeps it from dropping down to lock in the jib track?? Is it just the shock cord or cleat line wrapped around the button or something fancy.

I'm really new to this raked back mast idea and i was wondering what that has to do with the jib traveler? I see these ads for low profile jib blocks for raked back masts, but how would the blocks interfere with the mast?

Raked back mast caused the forestay and jib to be back at a sharper angle, lowering the relative position of the jib clew moving it towards the front crossbar.

I hog-ringed my traveler control line around the base of the knob on the traveler car. The line keeps the pin pulled up. It works great. I will get some pictures in a few days and post them.

You can make a very good traveler system relatively inexpensive by just riveting a bullet block on each front corner casting and one small cam cleat [with wedge] just a few inches from the bullet block. Use hog clips to attach control line from your combination traveler and cleat so that the stop pin is always up. Then attach a piece of bungee cord from the port and starboard jib traveler cleat comb. so the cars will return to the inboard end of track except when you cleat the traveler car out with your control line.
